About D.D. Webb
Daniel Duane Webb, known to friends and family as D.D., hails from the heart of the coal fields in Boone County, West Virginia. Raised in the tight-knit community of Gordon, D.D. spent his early years surrounded by the rugged beauty of southern West Virginia. After graduating from Van Junior-Senior High School in 1990, he briefly attended Southern West Virginia Community College, where he pursued a degree in business accounting before diving into the coal mining industry alongside his uncles in Shelby County, Alabama.
In 1997, D.D. transitioned from underground mining to a role above ground as a locomotive operator, later joining CSX Transportation. His career took him across various roles—from conductor and switchman to yardmaster and trainmaster—each step reflecting his commitment and adaptability in the railroad industry. The aftermath of 9/11 led D.D. to further his education at Virginia College of Birmingham, where he earned degrees in Network Engineering and Network Management while continuing his career at CSX and later with Transtar (U.S. Steel).
His professional journey eventually brought him to Gary, Indiana, as the General Manager of the Gary Railway, and in 2024, he embraced a new challenge as the Director of Customer Service at Transtar.
D.D. is an avid social cyclist and a member of the Birmingham Bicycle Club. He rides with Redemptive Cycles and Le Tour de Ham in Birmingham whenever he has the opportunity. He led Le Tour de Ham for seven years, and has volunteered as a member of the Redemptive Cycles’ Cork Team since 2015. D.D. has participated in the Five Boro Bike Tour in New York City, Bike the Drive in Chicago and over twenty weekly Slow Roll Detroit rides with his friend and brother-in-cycling, Jason Hall, in Detroit. D.D. seeks out social groups during his travels, and loves to see happy new faces on bikes as much as possible.
D.D. recently relocated from Crown Point, Indiana, to Lillian, Alabama, with his wife, Betsy Boggan-Webb, and their daughter, Elizabeth June Marie. They are excited to start a new chapter back in Alabama, embracing the next adventures that life has to offer.
